Who is the GOAT Leader?
The GOAT
(Greatest of All Time) Leader?
Who is the greatest leader of all time? The GOAT discussion
continues with leadership.
·
Is it a U.S. president: George Wahington, Abrham
Lincoln, J.F.K.?
·
Or other world leaders: Hitler? King Henry?
Queen Elizabeth?
·
Leaders of change: M.L.K. Jr., Gandhi?
·
A sports figure: Nick Saban, Paul Brown, Derek
Jeter?
To be very clear, I don't agree with Hitler's goals, but was
he a good leader? Maybe.
What is a leader?
According to text in education: Leadership is the
influencing process between leaders and followers to achieve organizational
objectives through change (Lussier, 2014).
The GOAT:
How about Jesus Christ? He's got my vote. Yes, I am
religious, but I will try not to be biased here.
Jesus was able to establish a new way of life (change), he
gave people purpose (to be a good person), he gave them a goal (to get to
heaven), he gained following that has been sustained for over 2,000 years, he
was well liked and respected by many... etc.
That's the definition of a God. And I don't just mean a higher power, but using the pop-culture definition of a God.. Jesus was the God of leadership. In other words, he was the GOAT. No one else in history has had their leadership result in such profound and sustained change.
Leadership, What Matters?
So what matters in a leader, how can you be like Jesus in
that manner?
- A leader is someone who is able to apply guidance and
influence to themselves and others to successfully reach a goal.
- Good leaders are skilled and high performing at what they
do, are willing to work a little harder than most people, are relatable,
charismatic, and influential, keep a cool demeaner, and are courageous and
curious.
- Leaders are born, not made. However, leadership skills can
be developed! It takes a certain base of characteristics and A LOT of hard work
and competence to be a good leader.
- At the end of the day: leadership = influence
And that’s why Jesus is the GOAT.
